How joining works

  1. Reach out to the NSCDAMD: If you know an existing member, ask them to sponsor you. If not, contact the the Maryland registrar through the link below.

  2. Identify a Qualifying Ancestor: You must identify an ancestor from the NSCDA Register of Ancestors or provide research to prove a new ancestor's eligibility.

  3. Submit Preliminary Papers: You will complete a "Line of Ascent" form showing your basic lineage. Once approved by the Board of Managers, you are officially a "candidate".

  4. Complete Genealogical Verification: You must provide primary source documentation (birth/death/marriage certificates) for every generation. These papers, often called "blue papers," are reviewed by an official society genealogist.

  5. Formal Admission: Once your lineage is verified and your fees (often around $75 for initial applications) are paid, you are formally invited to join the society.
